Red Pill Press || Why Publish With Us?

Red Pill Press is different than traditional and "full service" publishers. Take a look at how we differ and what advantages this brings to you.

Getting Your Book Into Print

In the past there have been two ways to get your book into print: Send it to a traditional publisher in hopes of getting it accepted, or pay a "full service" publisher to print the book for you (at your expense) and then also expense your own marketing campaign.

With traditional publishers you typically submit your manuscript to an editor, who then reviews the book and then makes a decision about whether they think they can sell it. The process is tedious and time consuming. Furthermore, traditional publishers will typically require that you give then an extensive license to your copyright! This means if someone wants to use your work as the basis for any other work then your publisher will be in control of the negotiations -- not you!

Here's a few interesting tidbits from industry insiders about traditional publishers:

  • 70% of the books published by traditional publishers do not earn enough revenue to recover the advance money paid to the authors -- Jerrold Jenkins
  • 70% of the books published by traditional publishers do not make a profit -- Jerrold Jenkins
  • A larger publisher must sell 10,000 books to break even -- Brian DeFiore, Maui Writers Conference
  • The average royalty paid to authors by traditional publishers is only 10.7% of net -- Publishing for Profit by Tom Woll

The bottom line is that you face many hurdles and loss of control over your work when you opt to use a traditional publisher, not to mention the fact that you'll make only a small percentage of income per book sold.

"Full service" publishers are basically printing companies that also offer marketing services. Unlike traditional publishers who carry all expenses when printing and marketing your book, full service publishers require that you pay for all expenses, including printing, shipping, and marketing.

Red Pill Press is a print-on-demand company. Our service leaves you plenty of room to set a reasonable cover price and have plenty of money left to market your book far and wide.

Based on our research some full service publishers charge $10 to $12 per copy for 200 copies of a 208 page book! In comparison, we can print a 200 page book for about $8.75 per copy. This alone can save you hundreds (and possibly thousands) of dollars.

You Own the Copyright

With Red Pill Press you own the copyright to your book, and as such you have complete creative control. There are no strings attached. If someone approaches you with an idea, such as making a movie based on your book or creating foreign language translations of your book, or you want to hire an agent or switch to a larger publisher then you're free to do as you like!

Digital Printing

Red Pill Press uses the latest digital printing technology. This means we can print your book on-demand quickly and efficiently. Other publishers and printers use a web press or offset printing technology, which require substantial setup time and are more expensive than digital printing. Turn around time is considerably longer and your costs are higher.

With digital printing we can keep our costs low, which equates to savings for you. And whether you want one copy or a thousand copies, no order is too large or too small.

Keep in mind that our digital printing technology is high quality. However if content in your book requires the use of the Pantone Matching System (PMS) then offest printing might be a better choice. We can handle your Pantone print work! Call us for a price quote.

Supplemental Marketing

Another advantage of using Red Pill Press is that we can include your book in our own marketing. We have an international distribution network and a printed catalog of books that we offer for sale. We market to book stores in numerous countries. This means your book cover, content summary, and even your author bio could gain added exposure at no cost to you!

We can also obtain an ISBN number for your book and get your book listed in Books in Print, BookData, and PubStock -- all of which are databases used by retailers in countries around the world.
