Red Pill Press || Print on Demand (POD) versus Print By Run (PBR)

Which is the best solution for your self-published book?

When you approach most publishers or printers they will encourage you to print the maximum amount of books at one time because it’s cheaper to print more at one time. The greater the print run the less expensive it is to print each book.

The reason for this is that most printers use a Print by Run (PBR) method to print your book. This method is less expensive when printing a large quantity at one time. But you must buy large quantities of books. This is due to the time required to setup the presses, which results in more man hours, book storage problems, and over or under production issues. You eliminate these problems with a Print on Demand (POD) solution.

Print on Demand

Print on Demand (POD) uses the latest in publishing and printing technology to produce quality trade paperback books that can be printed in customized quantity. Books are printed quickly, easily, and inexpensively, and only in quantities that meet your customers’ orders. There is never a storage problem, and your book will never go out of print.

With POD you will earn the highest royalties offered in the publishing business. Plus assistance is available for cover design, editing, proofreading, and marketing.

The basic steps involved in producing your work through POD are as follows:

  1. Submit your work and all supportive materials. We can create you cover art or you can provide your own.
  2. The work goes through a pre-press stage where the book is formatted, edited, and put into the document format used by Red Pill Press.
  3. The production team receives the work from pre-press in a form that is ready to print. It then goes through a final production review and an initial copy (the "proof" copy) will be printed for your review.
  4. The book will then be printed in an initial print run that varies in quantity, depending on the initial quantity required. Thereafter the book is stored in an electronic file ready to be printed to meet customer orders in increments as small as a single copy.

It’s that simple! Please read our "How To Prepare Your Manuscript For Printing " article for more details on the exact processes used by Red Pill Press.
